Pandemics, hurricanes, elections, virtual learning, and more...I've never been happier to turn on podcasts for a little escapism.
Â
(Seriously, though: I'm counting my blessings that Hurricane Laura didn't come to Florida, and thinking about the folks who are affected by the storm.)
Â
This week I bring you a bunch of new stuff—from me, and the rest of the podcast world. Great shows to keep you entertained, informed, and even speaking a new language! Enjoy!

5 Quirky Audio Drama Podcasts
Â
I got some help pulling this post together, since I never seem to finish the audio dramas that I start. John Longenbaugh from the team behind the BRASS podcast suggested these quirky shows.Â
Â
In the post, I include my own thoughts about the BRASS podcast, which I'm thoroughly enjoying for it's quick wit and alt-world building.
Â
Be sure to check these shows out (and comment on the post to leave your own audio drama recommendations).

Top 5 Podcasts for Learning to Speak Japanese
Â
Some of the most popular posts on the blog are ones recommending podcasts for learning a new language. To help serve more folks, I've started researching the best podcasts for several languages (not just the ones I'm learning).Â
Â
The latest post is for anyone interested in learning Japanese. If this doesn't speak to you right now, send the link to someone you think might be interested!

A short list of new shows that have recently launched or are about to launch:
Â
- The Quarantine Chronicles by PlayME - seven stories
across a range of genres all written by award-winning playwrights in isolation. These episodes are in my queue for this week. **To find these episodes in your podcast player, search for PlayME; you'll find the episodes in that feed.
Â
- In the Red Clay - just released this week: a 12-episode series about the most dangerous man in Georgia
history, Billy Sunday Birt.Â
Â
- The Victims of Samuel Little from The Fall Line- Starting Sept. 16: a series of episodes about a prolific serial killer
in the US.

This comedy sketch podcast features over-the-top, ridiculous scenes acted out by the Tony Ho comedy troupe. The episodes are super short (most are less than 5 minutes).
Â
I'll be honest: some of these episodes were FREAKIN' WEIRD! But I did love the ones titled Hider and Podcast (HILARIOUS). Start with those.
Â
Also: Language warning & adult content warning. Still hilarious.

Â
I resisted listening to this podcast because I thought it was "just another comedian hosting a podcast with celebrity guests" show.
Â
But once I did listen, I immediately subscribed and downloaded all the episodes.
Â
Don't Ask Tig is an advice column with light humor, not hard jokes. The famous guests do speak to their own experiences, but they aren't there to promote their latest book or movie (how refreshing!).

You might remember that I'm very much into doing my part to help save the planet. So, whenever a new podcast launches about this topic, I give it a shot.
Â
This new show by Gimlet Media founder & podcast host Alex Blumberg partners up with scientist Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson in a lighthearted and curious conversation about how the heck humanity can change the course we're on.
Â
I really appreciate the first episode, which is like an extended trailer and intro to the hosts. If you have doubts about listening to this show, try the first episode before you write it off!
