A funny thing has happened while I've been listening to podcasts lately...
Â
Let me start by sharing that, until early April this year, I had never seen a single Harry Potter movie, nor had I read any of the books. Which is strange, because my husband and I are both avid readers, but neither of us had any real interest in the Potter series.
Â
But when in quarantine, you tend to find interest in things you were never interested in before! So, we watched them all over the course of about 10 days.
Â
Y'ALL...I had no idea that I was opening the door to so many Harry Potter references in modern culture. Over the last few weeks, as I've listened to podcasts in all sorts of genres and about a variety of topics, I've picked up on SO MANY references to The Boy Who Lived.
Â
On that note, I'm going to try an episode of a Harry Potter podcast There are soooo many to choose from, so if you've listened to one, or have a favorite, let me know!

Wind of Change
Â
I am SO excited to recommend this podcast. I binged it earlier this week. All of the episodes are available now on Spotify. If you know me at all, you know that I strongly dislike listening via Spotify, so the fact that I was compelled to listen to multiple episodes there means this is a fantastic podcast.
Â
Wind of Change is part conspiracy theory/part history lesson, all intertwined with a look into the activities of the CIA, and a walk down memory lane of 80s rock music.
Â
The show is an 8 episode series, which you must listen to in order. If you're in your 30s or 40s, I think you'll love this show. If you love 80s rock (and I DO), you'll love it even more.
Â
This is the first podcast in 2020 that has made me lunge for my phone to note it down as a possible "Best Of" at the end of the year.
Â
Warning: You WILL have the song Wind of Change stuck in your head for days. I'm still humming it right now...

1. Two popular podcasts are in the middle of raising funds to support their shows:
Â
Ear Hustle has about 10 days left to their fundraiser (they're part of Radiotopia, which has an annual fundraiser, but this is an Ear Hustle-specific fundraiser right now). Click here to
donate and get some cool rewards.
Â
Death, Sex & Money is also trying to raise some funds. Let me say this: this show has really stepped it up during the pandemic. If ever they deserve some of your dollars, it's now. Click here to
donate.
Â
2. The Patient Zero podcast is currently releasing some bonus episodes that were previously only available to donors. Patient Zero was one of my choices for Best Podcasts of 2019, so I'm thrilled to see
them in my feed. Go check them out.
Â
3. Articles of Interest, a spin-off mini-series of Roman Mar's 99% Invisible podcast, is back for another season. A few episodes are live on the show's webpage, but I'm still only seeing the Season 2 trailer in my
podcast player. Hoping that will update soon...
I got mixed reactions to the last newsletter in regard to linking off to a list of podcast recommendations on Podchaser.
Â
Like you, I'd rather have everything right here in this email. That said, I'm able to recommend extra shows over there simply because it's quick to do.
Â
So I'm splitting the difference: Just like I normally do, I'll recommend 3 new podcasts here in the newsletter. If you want even more recommendations, you can see them (for free) over on Podchaser.

Beach Too Sandy, Water Too Wet
Â
I can't say that I ever would have found this podcast if not for reading about it somewhere online. I'm not sure how you even search for this type of show, but I'm glad I found it.
Â
The hosts of this show scour the internet for 1-star ratings and snarky reviews of places around the US, then they read them in their most incensed voices and laugh at how ridiculous people can be. I searched for an episode about places in Maine (where I'm from) and laughed out loud (even when they were a little insulting towards us Mainers!).
Â
This is a silly show, with tons of episodes available to binge.

The Daily Smile
Â
This new show from Wondery has a feel-good vibe that a lot of people need right now. If you like the narration from Imagined Life or The Moment (both also from Wondery), you'll like how the host of this show opens the episode. I was also pleasantly surprised by the last minute or two of the show, which includes other fun, feel-good things happening around the
world.

Son of a Hitman
Â
Ummmm...WHERE HAVE I BEEN? I've been watching actor Woody Harrelson since the late 80s, and I just heard THIS WEEK about his father being a convicted murderer?
Â
Episode 1 of this show definitely had me interested...especially the very end.
Â
Also: I had no idea this was another conspiracy theory/CIA-themed podcast (like Wind of Change, above). I guess it was just a thing this week!
