How the heck are you?
Â
I'm happy to report that this Florida resident was NOT affected by Hurricane Dorian. Still, the last week in the news cycle has been (extra) stressful due to the potential of being hit by a hurricane.
Â
For that reason, I haven't written a new blog post since the last email, but I do have SIX new recommendations to pass on, so keep reading to the bottom of this email!

Season 2 of Wondery's podcast Imagined Life
Â
I'm super excited to share that Imagined Life will be back for Season 2 on Friday, September 6.
Â
This show put out a ton of really creative episodes in Season 1.
Â
If you still haven't checked out Imagined Life, read my Season 1 review to see if it's something you'll be into.
Â
Also, if you've never listened, you can totally start with any episode you want; no need to listen in order.
Â
|
1. Also back from Wondery: Over My Dead Body. This season tells a
new story about two enemies in the field of big cat rescue. The press release made it seem like this is a story I would be familiar with, but I clearly missed it whenever it happened. I'll probably listen to get the scoop. The first few episodes are available now.
Â
2. Another new female-led, female-focused podcast network has launched. It's called Earios, and a few new shows are already live, with several more in production.
Â
3. The Astro Poets podcast officially launched. I mentioned this show once already, because apparently it's a big deal. I've got the first
episode downloaded and in the queue.

Patient Zero
Â
You. Guys. I have been talking about this podcast for days. Seriously, I've shared it with anyone who will listen, and explained details that people truly did not care to know. But I don't care.Â
Â
Patient Zero is made by New Hampshire Public Radio, and it's all about Lyme Disease: the history, how it is contracted and treated, the current state of research, and more info than you ever thought you'd know about ticks.
Â
This show is fascinating, disgusting, intriguing, mind-blowingly educational, and - most importantly - entertaining. I implore you go to listen. (Like, right now.)

We Love You & So Can You
Â
On a lighter, less disgusting (so far), note: I have also enjoyed the first 4 episodes of We Love You & So Can You.
Â
The show is made by Jolenta Greenberg & Kristen Meinzer, the fun & fast-talking duo from the By The Book podcast.
Â
In this new podcast, they take the tips and lessons they've learned in their other show and help people through their sh*t. It's part therapy/part guided self-improvement steps.Â
Â
So far, the topics have been light; no heavy family drama or anything like that. It's a perfect show to listen to in September, because it's #SelfImprovementMonth

The August 27 Episode of Weird Work
Â
The Weird Work podcast came back for a second season recently, and I was waiting for a really intriguing episode title to pop up in the feed.
Â
The episode that I downloaded and listened to immediately was "I'm a Surf Therapy Dog". (OMG, adorable, right?)
Â
Obviously, the interview is with the dog's owner, and it was less "weird" than it was touching and interesting. Please do this dog-lover a favor and go listen!

1619
Â
Back to a heavier topic: The New York Times has released a new series titled 1619, which tells the story of how slavery began in the United States.
Â
I had listened to the trailer and wasn't sure if I would like it; it seemed a bit too "haunting" to me. But I listened to the full first episode and then immediately subscribed.
Â
1619 is a beautiful blend of history and storytelling that should not be missed.

Better Than Happy
Â
This is a well-established podcast that I have just discovered (also due to my foray down the road of Self-Improvement Month)
Â
I really enjoy how life coach and host Jody Moore talks about the things we all deal with in life - from being wrong to having difficult family members - and sheds light on the different perspectives we all have.
Â
Jody mentions her faith in God as a way to help some listeners relate to topics and advice, but as a non-religious person, I didn't have any trouble with that.

The Moment
Â
I mentioned the launch of this podcast a few weeks ago, but now that I've listened to at least 4 episodes, I had to recommend it.
Â
The Moment is a sweet and fun show with each episode telling the love story of a different everyday couple. This is one of those shows you listen to purely for pleasure, and especially if you love a good cry or Hallmark movie. There's always a happy ending on this podcast!
